Council Highlights 9/11/24

Among other things, council:

• Began the meeting with a moment of silence in remembrance of all the lives lost and others affected by the 9/11 attacks.
• Discussed that Trick-or-Treat will be on 10/31/24 from 6pm-8pm.
• Discussed progress on this year’s CDBG grant project. This project will see a section of sewer line on Sycamore Street and Ninth Street repaired.
• Discussed completion of the Basketball Court reconstruction project.
• Discussed work on the Gosser Street Sewer line project. The borough engineer has begun surveying the area.
• Discussed next year’s application for CDBG funding from Westmoreland County. The borough is applying for money to repave the track at the park. As with all grants, this is just an application, no project or funding is guaranteed.
• Continued the ongoing discussion on the status and future of the borough police department. At this time many options are on the table.
• Discussed correspondence received by the borough related to the school tax situation.
• Approved resolutions 8, 9, 10 authorizing the borough to apply for Local Share Account Category 4 and Statewide grants. The borough will apply for grants for public works equipment and HVAC replacement at the borough building. As with all grants, this is just an application, no project or funding is guaranteed.
• Discussed memorial markers for trees that have been purchased in honor of various borough officials and placed in the park.
• Discussed ongoing efforts by the AKIGC-Westmoreland County Blight Task Force.
• Approved Resolution 12, authorizing the borough to participate in the Broadband Ready Communities Program.
