Council Highlights 10/8/25

Among other things, council:

Confirmed that Trick-or-Treat will take place on Friday, October 31, 2025 from 6pm-8pm.
Passed ordinance 340 establishing a fire tax of 3 mils beginning in 2026. This tax will be solely dedicated to the needs of the West Leechburg Volunteer Fire Department and is intended to help them with the ever-increasing cost of equipment. The borough is legally obligated to ensure that fire protection is provided in the borough and this tax provides a basis for that. The tax cannot be raised above 3 mils.
Discussed how to handle habitual ordinance violations by the same property owners.
Approved multiple stormwater management plans.
Discussed damage being caused to the curbs on Hemlock Street.
Discussed the borough’s current zoning ordinance as it applies to industrial areas and data centers. The solicitor will research this.
Discussed the submission of Local Share Account Grants for multiple projects.
Passed Resolution 7 of 2025 approving the Westmoreland County Blight Plan for the Alle-Kiski area.
